When London changed to the single 020 area code in 2000, the inner/outer London split was abolished at the same time. New 7xxx xxxx numbers were immediately issued anywhere in London. New 8xxx xxxx numbers were immediately issued anywhere in London. Within a few years, new 3xxx xxxx numbers were being issued anywhere in London. London has the single 020 area code. There is no inner/outer split, and hasn't been for more than a decade. 071 and 0171 *were* central London area codes – a very long time ago.

When London changed to the single 020 area code in 2000, the inner/outer London split was abolished at the same time.

New 7xxx xxxx numbers were immediately issued anywhere in London.

New 8xxx xxxx numbers were immediately issued anywhere in London.

Within a few years, new 3xxx xxxx numbers were being issued anywhere in London.

London has the single 020 area code. There is no inner/outer split, and hasn’t been for more than a decade.

I lost my 0207 prefix on skype due to this very issue - I was not impressed with the offer of a years free voicemail to make up for it, and my remonstrations fell on deaf ears ....
