Hmm, BT – always with the trials. Never with content you might actually be mad keen to watch or anything. I remember Layer Cake sitting on Telewest’s portal (i think) for an age as a £2 download to ‘test the market’.

‘Sign-up’ two hypenated words that’ll turn this potentially great and workable idea into tech mush and unless I want to be force fed, a part-time stint in the armed forces with full breakdown cover and life insurance something of a ‘yeah man, the business model is ad based’ example.

Sure attach sponsorship, make it fixed, don’t ask people to sign-up this is a web literate audience who’ve been illegally downloading music and video for years. Give it to them free, no strings, sure they have to sit through a ‘brought to you by’ but they’ll download it – with this proposed system BT is missing a trick and failing to understand the p2p community, something we’ve spent years tracking.

The opportunity is out there to tap into this 80 million + media content hungry community, you just have to know how to approach it.

Brand good will is worth a lot more than targeted advertising.
