Investors are interested in the numbers first, the sector second and the geography third. Obviously some have constraints on what they can invest in and where. As Eric Cantona once so eloquently said: "When the seagulls follow the trawler, it's because they think sardines will be thrown in to the sea". Not surprisingly lot of entrepreneurs and investors are attracted to where the perceive action and hence the funding is. But this is still a numbers game. Our new web portal http://www.mydealmaker.co.uk is intended to bring entrepreneurs with big ideas together with the finance and advice they need to take it to the next level. Thankfully in the one line world this marketplace can accommodate any number of entrepreneurs and investors in whatever sector or geography they are in. What everyone is looking for is the next big idea.

In fact, as a features idea, I'd find it interesting if you interviewed each of the major UK and European VC players one at a time. But maybe (actually definitely) I'm weird.

Cleantech is where it's at (baby!); we have around 15 VCs or corporate venturing partners coming to our event on 30th Jan which is aimed at the energy related market. We'll have around 80 - 100 companies looking for funding for their environmental technology or service offering. And that is from the SE region only. There are at least two other events to my knowledge on at the same time as ours - another in London and one in Wales and all are well subscribed.

The next bubble with be green - let's hope it's sustainable!
