LinkedIn has opened its first European office in London, clearly reflecting the growth of the professional social network in the UK and Europe. Kevin Eyres, formerly MD of travel site SideStep Europe and GM of AltaVista, has been hired as its European MD and is building a sales and marketing team. LinkedIn worked with UK Trade & Investment and its regional partner, Think London, in setting up here.
In October of last year, LinkedIn signed up its millionth member in the UK, its largest market outside the US, and currently has some four million members in the rest of Europe. Local European competitor Xing, based in Germany, has around 3 million members in total currently.

Interesting blog yesterday about this by Thomas Power at http://www.ecademy.com/node.php?id=97503 where he points out that LinkedIn are targetting the “starched white collars” in their positioning.
However, I still can’t find out where the hell the office actually is – haven’t these people heard of Google local or Google Maps?
How long before LinkedIn buys Xing?
David – The Linked in London off will be in Marylebone I gather. Don’t know exact address.
Where is the story on Yabb? I thought you would have the exclusive already? And where is the follow up on the ‘Irish Times ‘Blog of the week’ award which went to Paul “I love me” Walsh for http://paulfwalsh.com/blog/
Don’t worry about Yabb, Mike.
Seems cominded want us to jump through hoops to find out what it is Yabb does.
Paul has the exclusive and he is following their line. I can’t be ar**d to sign up THEN find out.
Sorry guys, I’ve been ill.
Sam,
The question is not when will LinkedIn buy XING, if anything, it will be the other way around. XING have purchased cember.net, the largest network for business contacts in Turkey with 280,000 members and also acquired a 100% interest in Neurona (www.neurona.com), the largest contact online business network in Spain and Latin America. So, they are the once buying.
