First prosecution in the UK for harassment via Facebook
by Mike Butcher on March 11, 2008

The first prosecution in the UK for harassment using Facebook will take place this month in Birmingham, where a man was being charged with harassing his ex-girlfriend. Michael Hurst allegedly harassed Sophie Sladden via the site on 21 January. He has pleaded not guilty in Birmingham Magistrates Court and was granted bail. Hurst will stand trial later this month. A spokesman for the Crown Prosecution Service said this was “the first case where a website like Facebook has been involved.”Neither of the people concerned now have a Facebook page. I’m sorry, but I am just going to have to point out that it’s not clear if “poking” was involved.
