BlinkBox inks deal with FreemantleMedia
by Mike Butcher on March 25, 2008

BlinkBox, the UK start-up we reviewed in October last year, has signed a deal with FremantleMedia to bring a bunch of old TV shows including Baywatch, Danger Mouse and Count Duckula to the service. Fremantle has a big library and has licensed 18 of its properties for use on BlinkBox, which join content from Warner Bros, Universal, Paramount, Aardman and Discovery Networks.

BlinkBox users can overlay a video clip taken from a movie or TV show with a personalised message at the beginning. Designed to go viral via a link, embed (although I can’t find the embed codes so maybe not?) or mobile device, the resulting clip also prompts the recipient to buy or rent the movie/show. All the content is pre-approved for use by the rights-holders and is heavily DRM’d.

CEO Michael Comish was formerly managing director of 4 Services at Channel 4, while co-founder and COO is Adrian Letts, formerly of the mobile content unit of Vodafone.
