Tripwolf today launched out of public beta and a UK site. Backed by incubator i5invest and MairDumont, Central Europe’s largest publisher of travel guides and tourist information (sort of the Frommer’s or Fodor’s of Central Europe). Last week the site launched publicly in German (Germany, Austria and
Switzerland). Tripwolf – which allows you to build and print your personal 10-to-20 page pdf travel guide to any destination with simple drag & drop – and users can now import their facebook profile and friends.

  • Yeah, pity much of the information in it is rubbish though. Example: for Oxford (UK) it lists a cinema that doesn’t exist, and a weird selection of things to do. Compare Wikitravel’s page which is excellent.

  • It makes no sense comparing Wikitravel and Tripwolf, the concept of the sites is completely different. Further more, who would look up in encyclopedia where to go for vacation?

  • Ivan: it makes every sense if both are purporting to offer travel guides to people. Yes, yes, Tripwolf, social networking, blah blah blah. Wikitravel isn’t analogous to an encyclopedia – it’s analogous to a travel guidebook (or series of them). What use is a travel site that offers ropey information?

  • It’s a young product as well so the information is bound to improve, especially if they’re backed by an established travel guide company who own content already. It’s certainly where travel is going IMO.

  • I just can’t find anything new here. It apparently supposed to be an innovation of the new way to travel but it looks like a copycat of hundreds of other travel web sites. The fact that a lot of money was invested in it does not make it the ultimate site. I am out.
