Gigulate is a new UK startup which aims to match music news, blogs and gig listings against each other. The result is a useful, Techmeme-like site which allows you to drill down by artist and see their latest upcoming gigs. Right now they are in beta mode and the site is working with a fraction of its main data, I’m told. We have 500 invites for TechCrunch readers here.
Business model-wise this is a site which will act as an affiliate partner for ticketing sites including Ticketmaster, WeGotTickets, Seetickets – all of which account for the majority of tickets sold in the UK. As a media site advertising is of course another avenue, though hopefully not just the Adsense currently on the Beta site. Gigulate is wisely steering clear of the recorded music world, which remains in disarray.

Right now it’s an editorial product with no crowdsourcing element. Though whether that would add anything is a moot point. Techmeme does ok, right? An API is also in the works.
The parralels with SongKick are obvious, but where SongKick is based on your music colllection, Gigulate is based more on what news you want to consume about artists.
There is no other music news aggregator operating in this way in the UK. There are obvious comparisons to be made with site’s like Google News’ Entertainment section, Cloudspeakers, and Daylife. Sonicliving has similarities but is closer to Songkick. Recently launched Rivmixx is not an aggregator but an editorial portal.
Team-wise Gigulate consist of first-time-round entrepreneurs John Martin, Duncan Amey and Ben Perreau – more here.

These guys have been doing this for a while, about the sam time as songkick, but I prefer this because there is more content than Songkick.
Check it out and they have some wicked competitions.
Enjoy
I suppose they just weren’t ready yet, as I’d also heard about them some time ago. Though I’m disappointed to get an invite through TCUK having registered for the beta a while back. I still hadn’t received an invite as of today.
Will still check it out though as it does sound interesting.
I’m signed up to the Gigulate beta and first impressions are that you can’t really compare it to Songkick or some of these other music gig sites. Gigulate is really the MusicMeme with gigs added to it. And honestly, that’s what I’m really liking about it.
I think they have a good thing going and this could be a pretty popular site in the near future.
Looks pretty interesting, I’d like an invite if there are some going.
Tom, see the section above which has a link i.e.:
“We have 500 invites for TechCrunch readers here.”
There are still a couple of hundred left as far as I could see…
dont bother my reply.
test
Just signed up and had a very quick look (I’ll come back for more later!). Would be nice to have an ‘import stuff about me’ button from iLike / Last.FM and so on so it could build a profile / intelligent list of what I might be looking for.
I don’t like the Google Ads on the pages, just a personal taste thing – but better to monetise through ticket cross-selling in the end I would suspect.
Worth a look…
Hullo Steve,
We plan to add personalisation to our service at a later date. I’ve written a blog post about this:
http://blog.gigulate.com/?p=23
Hope this helps.
Though I’m disappointed to get an invite through TCUK having registered for the beta a while back. I still hadn’t received an invite as of today.
Hullo programmer helper,
If you have not received your BETA key, then I can resend one to you.
Direct Message me on Twitter your email address and I’ll see what I can do.

Go to site & enter email for invite
wait for email invite
click invite url in email
signup
wait for email verification
Annoying. Invites should either be tied to email address (in which case clicking the invite code verifies my email) or make it so I can use your service before you verify my email. It’s been 5 minutes and I still can’t use your service.
Hey Peter,
Sorry about email lag. I blame the intertubes. If you don’t get a email within the next 10 minutes, direct message me on Twitter (with your email) and I’ll send you another one.

Does anyone know if they have plans to penetrate the US market? It seems like this would be a great addition to sites like citysearch?
Hi Chris,
Stay tuned.
http://blog.gigulate.com for more info.
Sonic Living (www.sonicliving.com) does an amazing job aggregating all band performances in America and alerting users when they bands they like have announced gigs in their area.
It’s funny that while there are a couple companies battling out on the other side of the pond, Sonicliving has been able to tackle America.
When Gigulate goes public I look forward to using it.
Hey Ted,
I’m not sure what you see in Sonic Living, but if you want to really see what’s going on in America, check out HearWhere
We were late for the invites
I sent our site this tuesday to Crunchbase and today I find Gigulate. I like their approach.
Songkick, Sonicliving, Jambase… there are lot of movements in live music and ticketing industry! We’ll try to fight tough there with 5gig network of sites.
Looks pretty interesting, I’d like an invite if there are some going.
good web site and article
Just checked out the website. Gigulate is very cool and the band information is compelling. I think this is better than SonicLiving
