London-based School of Everything has secured a follow on seed funding round similar in amount to their first, which was £350,000. The new funding comes from Tim Jackson, founder of QXL.com and LendAround, who now joins joined the board of the company. Channel 4 Education has followed up its initial investment through its new innovation fund 4iP and Sean Park and Geoff Mulgan join existing investors Rocco Pellegrinelli and the Young Foundation in this round. The site is looking to expand internationally. Existing investors are Web veteran Esther Dyson and British Telecom’s JP Rangaswami.
The site was a startup in the Seedcamp competition of 2007 but was not one of the finalists, despite it being a strong contender. The site matches up people who want to learn with teachers who can teach them. Whether it’s yoga or languages, music or blogging 101, teachers can sign up to teach anything – as long as it’s legal.
Currently it has over 12,000 active users in the UK and is growing fast. The team is based in Bethnal Green in East London.

Huge congrats to Paul and the team; well done guys! And congrats to the investors too of course.
Congratulations to Paul and the team. Good to see good ideas being funded despite the downturn.
Paul, maybe you list yourself on the site as tutor in “How to raise money in a recession”.
Congrats SOE!
Met with their, strategy manager Dougald and was impressed with the team’s vision. Hopefully this round will help the company improve the product and monetization.
Well done Tim, I think this should prove to be a smart investment. This is a great time to be buying or seeding smaller businesses, especially when sustainability is treated with as much emphasis as scalability.
Met Dougald a couple weeks back and like the approach a lot. Well done guys – congrats.
How come I’ve never heard of this before? School of Everything sounds great…now what to learn…
That’s fantastic news. Well done.
Now… if only I could find an online aerobics instructor…
Congrats! This is very exciting. One of those ideas you figure already has to exist but just doesn’t. Look forward to further updates!
Heard about this but haven’t heard anything since March. Is it still a go?
