I'm only sorry I missed a chance to see the #kebab panel in full effect - too much to do on the Digital Mission stand.

Two things to add to your post:

Firstly, I'm amazed at how little awareness the US scene has about the UK & Europe. In New York on the last mission, a major marketing agency was astonished to find out that we had a major industry around affiliate marketing. I know, I know...

Secondly, one of the big pulls for UK companies to SXSWi, is that it draws so many people/companies from both the East, West, mid-West and South. Although Americans treat planes like buses, it's still the only event I've been to, with such a broad audience.

And for Austin trivia buffs (off-topic) found out yesterday that the city also produced Lance Armstrong and the Whole Foods supermarket chain. #awesome.

Great fun Mike, I think we did the British contingent proud. I thought the #kebab panel was a much-needed antidote to the surprisingly uncritical tone of the other panel - it needed stirring up - but overall we're definitely going back with a lot of ideas and energy. Now we need to lobby SXSW to let us have a Britroom next year. Everyone e-mail the organizers now!

Slight clarification I'm actually from StreetWire.org rather than FixMyStreet (I just banged on about it in the panel). Was top fun though - same time next year.

Mark - I think you'll find that Cape Twon is a developing centre for innovation. Right now it's out-sourcing focused but that gene pool which changes as entrepreneurs start to develop out of it.

You made some very good observations Mike. Why do you think those in "The Valley" are reluctant to give credence to the emerging influence of development beyond the valley.

I cannot wait until Africa develops it's own version of Silicon Valley! Maybe it already has, I do not know!?
