ben, I love this idea, and it is something I have been trying to solve in a similar way. I registered a domain, reali.me with a very similar premise. However there are some interesting differences, which I think solve the main point people have gripes about on this thread. I would love to talk abuot this with you if you have chance:) It’s a fascinating problem to solve, and it DOES have to be solved!!!!!!!!!

Ben, alot of dating web sites are not going to let you in. The main reason, they will lose money, here is how- Many fake ads on dating sites are to generate traffic to a specific dating site whereby you can use the ‘free’ service; but to actually respond to other members messages you have to join -and credit cards are cheerfully accepted… in many cases the ads lure people into doing this only to realize, at some point, that the women do not respond to them… largely because they do not exist.
The bottom line with so called dating sites will lose money. So, why would they let you in? How about they are not even here? So, the laws do not apply for you.
I do think that you have a good idea, but it is not new, plus if you really want to investigate profiles, do it yourself, alot of free programs on here, one of my favorites is for photos called-

JPEGsnoop
it is a program give you information on the photo EXIF. That in details what camera, date and so on. Sorry, but I know we all have to make a living, but most people here can find programs and products that will work for free.

Here is a tought, make a website and post pics of all those fake profiles and everyone can comment on them, but before they can look or post, they have to look at an advertisment, but that is just a thought.

Besides, us men are tired of paying for everything, make the women, since they want equal rights…yeah equal until its time to pay? But, as men, we get scammed just for signing up on dating sites, just to read an email, that once you pay, and read it, you will never hear from her (him) again.

All they do is just verifying your face. That might work for some dating websites but not all. We still want to make “online dating” hassle free.

Makes no sense. I could easily impersonate a friend/enemy using MY OWN pair of pics (claim a different name). If that person is not active on the site, I could get away with anything for a long enough time to damage/exploit his reputation. There is no matching made between pic and real world identity.

People have been doing this exact same thing for years on Friendster, Myspace, and Facebook. They simply take a picture of themselves holding a piece of paper that has their profile id written on it. At least this method allows it to be scrutinized by anyone any time… for free. Why would someone pay to do the exact same thing, but only be “verified” by your employees who may or may not be skilled in spotting telltale signs of Photoshoppery?

This has been a problem for years, and the website he has built deals with it in a way many people would’ve thought of before, in fact I’ve got men to send me a mobile pics with the word I stated written on a piece of paper. This method is actually more full proof than Bens because I’m specifying the word real time. So this certainly isn’t innovative Leon. Not in the way its implemented, anyway.

I know about Ben, I’m British too. He is obviously smart, but he was in the right place at the right time regarding his first successes – before the first internet bubble burst. Of course I wish him good luck, but looking at the business, not Ben, I don’t see it taking off. We shall see though.

isn’t that statement so infuriating, “if it was a viable business someone would’ve already done this” it is people like Ben who continue to innovate and push us forward. do you think if Ben had listened to that statement when he was 15 he would have become one of the UK’s richest men?
