What I was trying to get at was that there are more significant differences between Seedcamp and Y Combinator which would be more useful to mention to readers.

I wonder about the accuracy of these stats when you consider Saul (+colleagues?) being english, meetings being held in london, and the UK’s tech press being so willing to promote seedcamp?

Mike implies that it’s some bias or prejudice YC and their ilk have against older founders, whereas the reality is:
– statistically, most founders are in their 20s
– the average age at YC is higher than the stereotype suggests
– they are very welcoming to older founders (PG recently expressed a view that older founders are more likely to succeed)

I’d be surprised to find that Seedcamp had a significantly higher avg age than YC.

Hey guys – wouldn’t harp too much on the type of entrepreneur difference either. More the differences between YC and SC are the regional approach through the Mini Seedcamps and this concept of a Seedcamp Week. I agree… that the type of entrepreneurs is more a stereotype and so… I’ll say point taken

And Jonathan quoted Y Combinator in saying that most of the people they fund are about 25 years old.

Interesting geographical distribution.

What about the selection panel? Looking quickly at the seedcamp website, it looks heavily weighted towards English people or English companies / funds. Is that correct?

Agreed. From the Y Combinator FAQ:

“What’s the average age of people you fund?

About 25. A lot of people think it’s younger because the press especially like to write about young founders.”

This is the Y Combinator stereotype, but I can attest to its inaccuracy. Whilst most founders are in their mid-late 20s (reflecting the most common age for people to start risky ventures), many are in their 30s.
