Flogs.com raises €2m for its event calendar aggregator

[Netherlands] Dutch Start-up Flogs has raised almost €2 million in a round of funding from private investors and the Dutch Government to develop its sharing and synchronizing of event calendars from most major platforms. CEO Toon Timmermans says they plan to expand the business worldwide, opening an office in New York and hiring more staff.

These include Ralph Manheim, a former IMG Media executive with experience in the world of Football, as the commercial director for Flogs International. Martijn van Egmond, formerly of Google, will become marketing and communication manager.

Flogs lets users browse through existing calendars (sports, music, entertainment, art, financial markets etc) or create calendars themselves. A user can also share events across Microsoft Outlook, Google calendar, Blackberry, Yahoo calendar, Mozilla Sunbird & T-bird, Mac OSX/iCal and Windows Live Calendar.

Flogs was founded in December 2008 by Toon Timmermans, Bram van Gestel and internet entrepreneur Michiel Mol (founder LBi, Guerrilla Games and Force India F1 Team).

Meanwhile, does anyone want to break the news to them about what Flogs means in English slang?

Wat een astronomisch groot bedrag voor een startup. Mike,

This is an application for god’s sake. Good luck for them to secure such funding but how deep is the revenue stream for such an app.

What problem is it solving for consumers or business users? Where is the scale in this? I understand that we use calendars, I have seen many calendar apps, but it does not solve any problem [aggregating calendars is not a problem in my books].

Somebody can set up a crawler service add on SoLr for the search and target the same data and deliver it for next to free.

BTW the most important calendar for our family is on the side of our fridge – it lists all of the kids activities and all the jobs that I have to do :0)

Guys at Flogs, I wish you well, respect etc, but I do not see your vision with this application. And BTW I tried to look at your ‘developers wanted’ news and my computer reported a site attack [odd] and not good.

    Good luck anyway

Let’s see what they will bring in the future. For now, Good luck with the cash! It is a “special” name indeed, but the service looks interesting enough.
