Shazam shares big numbers: 75 million users, over 1 billion songs identified

Mobile music recognition and discovery startup Shazam this afternoon revealed that it has grown its user base from 50 million to 75 million members in the last six months.

Stunningly, the company also says it has identified more than one billion songs to date.

Shazam has now become a global phenomenon with a footprint in over 200 countries across six continents through partnerships with leading carriers and handset manufacturers. The company has every right to claim that its brand has now become one of the biggest in mobile.

Shazam CEO Andrew Fisher is confident that its user growth will continue throughout 2010, and that its user base will exceed 100 million members by the end of the year.

In case you’re not familiar with Shazam: the London-based company, which was founded way back in 2002, enables consumers to experience and share music with others across mobile devices and the Internet.

Its service enables users to identify what song is playing, preview 30 second clips, buy the track, find local and international tour dates for the tagged artist and purchase tickets to the gigs. It also offers tight integration with social networking services, so people can share and recommend music.

Shazam supports most of today’s platforms: Android, BlackBerry, BREW, iPhone, iPad, J2ME, Symbian and Windows Phone. It’s seen phenomenal success on Nokia devices – last month the company revealed that its app has been downloaded from the Ovi Store over 1 million times. They are currently looking into the TV room for their next phase of growth.

Back in October 2009, Shazam announced that it was profitable and that it was raising a round of funding from Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers (out of their iFund). The company also lists DN Capital and Acacia Capital Partners as investors.

By the way, the one billionth track to get identified by Shazam was Gettin’ Over by David Guetta ft. Chris Willis. Enjoy:
