Zemanta partners with Automattic to add its recommendation engine to WordPress.com

Zemanta, the service that helps bloggers find related content as they write, has partnered with Automattic so that its plugin is now available to users of WordPress.com.

This follows existing partnerships with SixApart’s Movable Type, Blogger.com and Scribefire, and means that with today’s addition of WordPress.com, Zemanta now reaches 30% of the blogosphere, claims the company.

Zemanta says it’s worked closely with the Automattic team to tailor and optimize the experience for users who, using the plugin, can automatically discover related articles and pictures from the company’s content index. That used to consist purely of so-called ‘professional media’, but last December Zemanta opened up to include content from its community of users, thus creating a level playing field where anybody using the service has a better chance of having their content featured in the blog posts of others.

Zemanta is backed by Union Square Ventures, Eden Ventures and The Accelerator Group to the tune of $2.35M, after the Slovenian company originally won seed capital from Seedcamp. The company, whose competitors include Amsterdam-based Kimengi, is headquarted in London.
