UnLtdWorld done good, acquired by Guardian News & Media

UnLtdWorld, the three year-old social network for social entrepreneurs, has been acquired by Guardian News & Media Limited (part of the Guardian Media Group).

Terms aren’t being disclosed and UnLtdWorld are being tight lipped, which suggests it wasn’t a major pay day. The site itself will be kept live for now but the plan moving forward is to combine the current UnLtdWorld platform with the Guardian Social Enterprise Network “to offer the best content, bloggers and the largest network of people and resources for the sector”, wrote David Mills, Editor, Guardian Social Enterprise Network in an email sent out to UnLtdWorld users.

In that email, Cliff Prior, CEO of UnLtd, the parent non-profit of UnLtdWorld (the site itself had a business model of selling on addition services around data related to the sector), talks up the acquisition as a “full circle social enterprise success story.” Of, course, without a figure that’s hard to quantify.

Meanwhile, Alberto Nardelli CEO of UnLtdWorld, is quoted as describing the site as the largest community of social entrepreneurs in the UK, so perhaps it trumps the Guardian’s own offering. [Update: the site claims close to 14,000 members.] Although, how big the market for a social network for social entrepreneurs is as a whole is debatable, especially with the use of Facebook to organise and share information and the fact that, in my experience, social entrepreneurs are kind of busy offline doing actual good.

We’ll update this post if and when we find out more.
