Private shopping club Brands4friends ratchets up €1m in sales in a single day

Germany’s leading online private shopping club, Brands4friends, has hit somewhat of a milestone this week, ratcheting up €1 million worth of sales in a single day. Just in time for its third birthday, apparently.

The site now claims 3.5 million members in its home country, although Btands4friends is keen to talk up its international expansion, having entered Austria and Japan, as well as the UK via its investment in Secretsales. It boasts 4.5 million members in total.

Brands4friends offers members access to major fashion brands and other goods at hugely discounted prices, driven by the overstock market as well as “off season” goods. Its biggest and best-known competitor is, of course, Vente Privee, said to have annual revenue nearing €650m globally. The Paris-based company was also reportedly courting Amazon, with the US e-tailer desperate to get into the lucrative private buying club market. Other players in Europe include News International-owned BrandAlley UK, Russia’s KupiVIP.ru, and Spain’s BuyVIP.

That said, Brands4friends claims to be holding its own (in the countries it operates at least), citing Google Trends search index and 250,000 shoppers per-day.
